Susan Palma Nidel: ELEGANTE
by George W. Harris • November 28, 2012
The subtitle and list of guests should tell you just about all you need to know about this intriguing mix of classical and folk music. “New Flute Music From South America” is just under the title, as is the list of guests artists, which includes Ivan Lins, Branford Marsalis, Chico Pinheiro, the Borromeo String Quartet and Leonardo Amuedo.
The album is bookended by Lins singing along with a gentle folk ensemble, with Palma’s flutes floating over like cirrus clouds. Chamber folk graces the ears on “Invitacion Al Danzon” and “Milonga para Hermato” which features simple cellos/
piano, or guitar and bandoneon in con-junction with the woodwind. A feathery feel permeates each piece with a breezy sway filling the ears. ›
I like it very much and playing. Close to jazz, but still has classical
elements w/ latin rhythms. I am hooked

This is wonderful. I have listened in the car for the past three days, and am reluctant to catalog into our system. Want to keep it for myself! The 'Villa-Lobos' & 'Barrios' are right in our sound house. Love 'Guarde now Olhos. Branford is great, great here
